In the run-up to the first track session, Liam and Isack curbed the golf fever (any Masters fans in the chat?) and (failed) to settle the argument of who is the biggest fan of Cars and Lightning McQueen. With all of that behind us, we KACHOWed our way into the first session.

In Free Practice 1, Liam finished 8th overall after completing 23 laps. Isack was 12th overall, trailing the fastest time of Norris by +1.463 seconds. Free Practice 2 saw Isack improve to P6 overall, while Liam was 12th fastest after 27 laps. In their Friday tree-brief, Isack and Liam were positive about their overall pace for the weekend.
In Free Practice 3, Isack and Liam moved back one place each, finishing P7 and P13 overall to Piastri’s fastest time of 1:31.646. In Q1, Isack’s fastest lap was good enough for P10 overall and he progressed into Q2. Liam’s best lap was +1.058 seconds off the pace of Norris’ time of 1:31.107 and qualified P17. Piastri set the pace in Q2 with a 1:30.454 benchmark lap time. Isack’s best time was just +0.817 down and positioned him in P12 for the race.

Lights out on Sunday. Isack and Liam started on soft and medium tyres, respectively. Isack didn’t get the optimum start and dropped four places to P16 – Liam maintained his starting position. Isack was one of the first drivers to pit, swapping for a new set of medium tyres on lap 7 and committing to a two-stop strategy. As he was pushing on in the race, Isack picked up a warning for exceeding track limits but managed to bring the VCARB 02 home without a time penalty. After Liam pitted on lap 15 for hard tyres, it was ‘as you were’ until lap 32, when a safety car was deployed for debris on the track.
On the race restart, Liam and Isack swapped positions and sat in 16th and 17th place. After a short scrap with Hulkenberg, Liam moved up to P14, where he stayed until a late move on Doohan promoted him to P13. Sadly, 15 seconds of time penalties undid Liam’s hard work and he finished P17 overall. Isack brought his car home in P15.

It feels like we’ve lost a bit of our performance edge
Laurent Mekies Visa Cash App Racing Bulls Team Principal, Laurent Mekies, weighs in: “A difficult weekend. It feels like we’ve lost a bit of our performance edge, at least enough to slide out of the top 10 and score no points. It was another strong weekend for Isack, and Liam has made huge steps in the right direction, so we have a lot to be pleased about. We’re already preparing for Jeddah and we feel confident to have a strong package for both drivers.”
